What it is
Fans Celebrate Dolly Parton Day is the name TikTok search gave the public parties on Sept. 25, 2026. People film themselves in rhinestones or a pink shirt, standing in a city square, singing or line-dancing to "9 to 5." The date is written 9/25 on purpose. It is supposed to look like the song title.
Dolly Parton died of cancer in Nashville on Aug. 25, 2026, at 80. Her nephew Bryan Seaver announced it. A month later, the first 9/25 after her death was the Friday cities actually gathered.
The proclamations started before the parties. On Sept. 4, Kevin Dolak reported in The Hollywood Reporter that Manhattan Borough President Brad Hoylman-Sigal had proclaimed Sept. 25 Dolly Parton Appreciation Day, and that New Orleans had named the same Friday Dolly Day, with a parade from the Krewe of Dolly. In the week before the celebration, California Gov.
Gavin Newsom signed Senate Bill 931, from Sens. Shannon Grove and John Laird, so the state proclaims Sept. 25 Dolly Parton Day every year. Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine's proclamation, signed with Lt. Gov. Jim Tressel, covers 2026 only.
Each city filmed its own version.
In San Francisco, KPIX shot Dolly Day in Union Square on Sept. 25: a free stage set for about three hours, a mural guests could paint, and a shrine. The reporter said a local record-shop owner planned it the day she died. SFist named him Matt "Haze" Kaftor of Gold Digger Records. SFGATE photographed a line dance to "9 to 5." Thee Olde Country opened with the song, and the singer told the crowd, "None of y'all working nine-to-five, are ya." Lisa Zafina won the look-alike contest over drag performer Dirty Carol.
ABC News spent the same afternoon at Dollywood. Hosts wore pink "I Will Always Love You" shirts. Dolly's niece Heidi Parton, who has performed at the park since she was 4, talked with reporter Danny New. Fan Peter Nell had flown in from the Netherlands. Newsweek said Nashville lit buildings pink, had music venues play "9 to 5" at 5 p.m., and set fireworks for 9:25 p.m.
In New York, a YouTube Short from Bryant Park on Sept. 25 shows a square dance under the caption "9-25-2026 Dolly Parton Day." The filmer also mentions a mechanical bull they did not catch on camera. In New Orleans, the Krewe of Dolly walked from Armstrong Park through the French Quarter to the New Orleans Jazz Museum and asked for Imagination Library donations. The program mails a book a month to kids. The krewe's local goal was to grow from about 3,700 enrolled children to 6,000.
If you are posting after that first Friday, the copyable bits are the song and the give. Cut on the typewriter riff at the top of "9 to 5," or on "Tumble outta bed and I stumble to the kitchen." Disney marked the same date Give Like Dolly Day and said a restored "9 to 5" plays in theaters Oct. 9 through Oct. 15, with net proceeds from U.S. tickets going to the Dollywood Foundation for Imagination Library.
TikTok Creator Search Insights still listed "Fans Celebrate Dolly Parton Day" near 10 million searches on Sept. 29, four days after the parties.
How to try it
Film a crowd or yourself in rhinestones or a pink shirt, with "9 to 5" as the track. Start the clip on the typewriter intro or on "Tumble outta bed" so the hook hits in the first second. Put the place name on screen if you are at a real gathering.
Use an angle people already posted: a line dance or square dance, a look-alike turn, or a book you are giving to Imagination Library. San Francisco did the contest and the line dance at Union Square. Bryant Park did a square dance. Dollywood leaned on pink shirts and "I Will Always Love You."
Tag #DollyPartonDay, #DollyDay, #DollyDay2026, #9to5, and #ImaginationLibrary, and keep the caption phrasing people type: "fans celebrate dolly parton day." Skip private funerals and the family plot in Nashville. Her team asked people who want to send condolences to donate to Imagination Library instead of camping a graveside shot.

Common questions
- What is Dolly Parton Day?
- It is Sept. 25, written 9/25 so it echoes Dolly Parton's song "9 to 5." In 2026 the first observance fell one month after she died, and fans filmed city parties, look-alike contests, and book drives.
- Why did fans celebrate it in September 2026?
- Parton died of cancer on Aug. 25, 2026, at 80. Cities had already started proclaiming Sept. 25 that month. Manhattan and New Orleans named the date in early September, and California made it an annual proclamation before the first Friday.
- What song do the clips use?
- Most cut on "9 to 5," either the typewriter intro or "Tumble outta bed and I stumble to the kitchen." Dollywood coverage also leans on "I Will Always Love You," which showed up on the park's pink shirts.
- How do I post one if I missed the city party?
- Use the same song, say where you are, and show a give if you are not at a parade. Imagination Library, the book-a-month program her family pointed people toward, is the version that still reads as part of the day after Sept. 25.
- What should I leave alone?
- Do not film a private funeral or stake out Woodlawn in Nashville. The public ask was a donation to Imagination Library, or a tag on her social pages, not a graveside clip.
